'Doctor Strange' spoilers: Main villain unveiled

Mads Mikkelsen in Doctor StrangeMarvel Studios

Mads Mikkelsen will be playing the villain Kaecilius in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film "Doctor Strange." Very little is known about his character, but as reported by Comic Book, Marvel has given audiences a glimpse of Kaecilius's origins in a brand-new prequel comic book.

As stated by the report, only half of the full comic book has since been released but even with material lacking, it already paints a picture of who Kaecilius is and what his powers are. The report points out that during the events of the prequel comic book he is not yet a villain but a high-ranking Master of the Mystic Arts.

The comic book also showcases that he is such a powerful member of the organization of monks and mystics that he is working with Wong (Benedict Wong) and serves directly under The Ancient One, who will be played by Tilda Swinton in the live-action film.

In the prequel comic a lower-member of the organization steals a powerful staff that has the ability to harness the power of darkness and suck in any essence of light, presumably forming some kind of connection to the dark energy that was teased in "Agent Carter" season 2.

The images showcase the full costume of Kaecilius and that unlike his fellow Mystics, he is wielding a pair of bladed weapons instead of a staff. He is also notably younger which means there could be a long gap in between the events of the comic and the film, in which he is already a corrupted villain.

"Doctor Strange" stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular hero, a famous surgeon who loses his ability to work with his hands after an accident but gains knowledge and power when he seeks the aid of the Ancient One. The film opens in theaters nationwide this Nov. 4.
