The Time Lord's quest to keep the universe safe officially continued on Sept. 19. But in the "Doctor Who" season 9 premiere titled "The Magician's Apprentice," the cosmos' time-defying protector had gone missing with the synopsis asking twice, "Where's the Doctor?"

Unfortunately, the day he vanished was the day the Earth was attacked by a "mysterious alien force" that had apparently iced over the planet's skies. The Doctor's disappearance entailed his trusty friend Clara to step up but this only put her in greater danger. 

The synopsis for the "Doctor Who" season 9 premiere teased viewers that the Time Lord had gone into hiding from someone or something from his past, which came back to haunt him in the form of enemies he once trounced, but lived and became hell-bent on revenge.

This made the stakes higher and the threat much bigger, one that Clara and the Doctor might not be able to get out of in one piece. But there was someone who could help and a very unlikely one, indeed.

The first part of the "Doctor Who" season 9 premiere titled "The Magician's Apprentice" saw the return of the Master that has taken the form of Missy, who helped Clara find her missing friend. She also happens to be the Doctor's arch-rival, which means that there's a much more enormous trouble brewing. 

Although the danger is extreme in the two-part premiere, Tech Insider promises that viewers will definitely love the beginning of the new season as it is better compared to all episodes of season 8 combined.  

"The Witch's Familiar," the second installment of the "Doctor Who" season 9 premiere, airs Sept. 26.
