The first look at Pearl Mackie as the Time Lord's new companion has been revealed as the production for the 10th season of "Doctor Who" in Cardiff is currently underway.

BBC posted a photo of the 29-year-old British actress taken during the first day of the production for season 10. A video was also uploaded where the actress gave a brief tour of the set.

"It's my first day on location!" Mackie revealed in the video. "It's mad, it's really exciting. There's loads of fans," the actress added.

Mackie's character, named Bill, will replace Jenna Coleman's Clara Oswald as the companion of Doctor Who, portrayed by Peter Capaldi. When asked what sets Bill apart from Clara, Capaldi said that the new companion has little knowledge about what the Time Lord is.

The actress, on the other hand, described her character in an interview with Telegraph UK as an interesting character to portray.

"Fantastically written, cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in -- I can't wait to bring her to life and to see how she develops through the series," the actress said. "I always loved stage combat at drama school, so I can't wait to get on set and kick some evil monsters into the next dimension!"

Meanwhile, BBC revealed that Matt Lucas will reprise his role as Nardole in the premiere episode of "Doctor Who" season 10. The character was last seen in the series' Christmas special.

Executive producer Steven Moffat was excited to announce Lucas' return on the series, saying: "Delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the TARDIS -- and this time it's not just for Christmas, he's sticking around. One of the greatest comedy talents on planet Earth is being unleashed on all of time and space."

The 10th season of "Doctor Who" is expected to air in 2017, but the series will once again release a Christmas special in December.
