"Does Jesus really mend broken hearts?"

Some Christians know in thought that Christ is indeed able to heal hurts and mend broken hearts, but can't seem to feel it.

They feel like God isn't comforting them or healing them, even after they've cried to Him for help and prayed many times. They held on to His words and promises, but still felt much pain and sorrow from various experiences.

And so, they question the truth. They ask that question above, in an effort to at least find some hope and consolation for their pains.

Friend, if you're that person, I have some things to share with you.

Jesus mends broken hearts

Jesus is more than just a Saviour and a Redeemer. He also is the Great Physician who heals our diseases and mends our broken hearts. More than these, He also is the one who restores our broken lives.

Here are a few things, however, that we need to know in order to fully understand - and experience - His comfort the way He intended.

1) He said we will go through trials

Christ did not promise to spare us from any trial. He actually promised that if we follow Him, we will surely face trials. He said in John 15:20,

"Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also."

As we follow Christ, we should not be surprised if we are persecuted. Thankfully, He did pray for us:

"...I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one..." (see John 17:14-15)

2) He promised to be with us as we go through trials

Christ also promised that He would be with us as we follow and obey Him.

"If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me." (see John 14:23-24)

He also said in Matthew 28:18-20,

""All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen."

3) He knows how to help us and will help us if we come to Him

No matter what the hurt or failure we've experienced, Christ is able to understand us and help us. Hebrews 4:15-16 tells us,

"For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

If we come to Him, we will surely receive the help that we need from Him. Why? It's because He is alive! Hebrews 7:24-25 assures us,

"But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them."
