Last weekend's airing of episodes 109 and 110 of "Dragon Ball Super" revealed Goku's new form called Ultra Instinct.

The battle between Goku and Jiren finally begins. In the episode, Goku is seen using his Super Saiyan Blue form backed up with Kaioken x20. Fans know that this is the hero's strongest form as yet. Once the fight ensues, Goku is easily defeated by Jiren. The Saiyan uses The Spirit Bomb attack but Jiren repels the attack.

Fans noticed the fast pacing of the episode and noted that if it was aired during the "Dragon Ball Z" era, Goku's return would have happened four weeks from now. However, "Dragon Ball Super" is keeping up with the times and quickly reveals Goku has somewhat absorbed the energy of his own power attack.

At first look, Goku seemed to have powered down, with his hair all black and normal. Yet, once the camera focuses, a silver-eyed Goku is revealed with an electric white aura enveloping his body. Since this is Goku's first time to use Ultra Instinct, he was a bit unstable and ended up still being beaten by Jiren who actually looked scared for the first time in the entire Tournament of Power.

For hardcore followers of the show, since its "Dragon Ball" days, the two episodes were a look-back to the scenes when Goku attained a power up for the first time. It is a sort of homage to when Goku first turned into a Great Ape (Saiyan Beast Form), to when he learned the Kaioken and finally during his battle with Freeza as he transformed into the legendary Super Saiyan Form.

Ultra Instinct or "migatte no gokui," is actually a mental state that Whis teaches to his disciples, like Beerus (and now, Goku). Whis once used this technique against Goku, which may be a hint why the Saiyan was able to accidentally tap in to this kind of power state. Ultra Instinct is apparently difficult to master even for gods of destruction and Supreme Kais.
