Fans of two great franchises will get the chance to battle it out, as the promised cross-play update goes live for both "Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden" and "One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum" games.

The update is already live for both copies of the games on the Nintendo 3DS. This means that both players of "Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden" and "One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum" can play against each other in either local battles or online matches. However, the roster will stay the same for each game. This means that those who have "Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden" will only get to pick from Goku and the rest of the game's fighter list, while players for "One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum" will only have Luffy and his comrades as fighters.

This means that those who avail of the update will get to see Luffy versus Goku, or square off Vegeta and a team support from the Z warriors versus the Straw Hate Pirates.

The new patch is a part of the on-going collaboration of the two Bandai Namco titles, particularly with the celebration of the latest franchise adaptations. The latest "One Piece Film: Gold" had been a successful release, while the new "Dragon Ball Super" anime and manga adaptations are updated regularly as the continuation of the "Dragon Ball" series.

"One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum" was released last September in Japan, with more than 20 playable fighters and at least 80 support characters, all from the "One Piece" franchise. Meanwhile, "Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden" was launched in June last year in Japan and was released internationally just last month. It features more than 100 characters from all the "Dragon Ball" adaptations, including Broly, Goku's father Bardock, and the latest additions in the on-going anime adaptation "Dragon Ball Super."

Both games have one-on-one and team battles as features, and it is expected that both gameplay will also be the options for the local and online matches for the cross-play update.
