'Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F' release date for U.S. in August

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F Toei Animation

According to a new report from ComicBook.com, FUNimation Entertainment has set a limited U.S. release for the English dubbed version of "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'," the latest movie in the long-running anime series and follow-up to "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods." The movie is scheduled to launch in select theaters from Aug. 4 to 12.

Tickets are still unavailable at this point but a report from IGN explains that the official website for the film will announce when tickets can be purchased online.

"We are thrilled to bring fans – both new and old – this latest film from series creator Akira Toriyama," explained CEO and founder of FUNimation Gen Fukunaga. "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' is a visually stunning movie and offers even more action and comedy than Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods."

"Resurrection 'F'" marks the grand return of Frieza, one of the most iconic villains in anime history. The film is set after the events of the "Dragon Ball Z" series and the "Battle of Gods" film. Loyal followers of Frieza head to Earth and use the Dragon Balls to revive their fallen leader in an attempt to exact revenge on Goku and his friends.

Promotional trailers reveal that Frieza attains a new "golden" form in order to battle with the now super-powered heroes. In order to compensate, Goku and Vegeta will attain new Super Saiyan forms as well. Beerus, the antagonist from "Battle of Gods," is also expected to make an appearance.

The film initially launched in Japan last April 18 and saw a one-time release in Los Angeles last April 11 but this was a subtitled version and not the FUNimation English dub which is what audiences will get this August. The film will be released in both its subtitled and dubbed versions in Australia in winter.
