Video game company Square Enix has confirmed that "Dragon Quest Heroes 2" will come to the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Playstation Vita. 

The announcement came rather quickly since the first installment of the game was released in Japan just around five weeks ago. Game observers note that the announcement might be hasty, given the euphoria over the original "Dragon Quest Heroes"' selling more than 600 thousand copies across platforms in the first week of its launch in Japan, at least according to Square Enix's Japanese blog. 

Before the sequel, the original game has already been announced as coming to North America and Europe sometime this year. It will be released as a PS4-exclusive, and developed by Omega Force, partnering with the original "Dragon Quest" creator Yuji Horii and Koichi Sugiyama. The characters, both protagonists and the monsters, are designed by famous artist Akira Toriyama of the "Dragon Ball" world fame. 

The release of "Dragon Quest Heroes" in North America and Europe is significant, since this marks the return of the franchise to the PlayStation platform. The Last "Dragon Quest" title on the Sony's console is "Dragon Quest 8" in 2006. 

The story follows events in the kingdom of Elsarze, in a world where humans and monsters initially worked in concert and everyone was living peacefully. Due to events outside of their control, monsters turned violent and attacked the kingdoms in the human world, including Elsarze. The different regiments of the kingdom's security force, where the central characters Akt and Mare are, must take a stand and battle these monsters to bring back peace. 

There are no background details yet on what would be the plot for the second installment of the "Dragon Quest Heroes," if it would follow the events of the original game or if it would be spun off an entirely new kingdom. However, the gameplay is expected to remain the same, combining developer Omega Force's "Dynasty Warriors" with its role playing action and the characters of "Dragon Quest."
