The 2012 film "Dredd" starring Karl Urban was widely praised by critics and audiences alike but still failed to draw in a high box-office result, immediately putting to doubt that the studios would move forward with a sequel. Urban has since taken to Twitter to reaffirm that he would be open to doing a sequel, even if it was on Netflix or Amazon instead of the big screen.

"I'd do it," Urban responded to the concept of continuing the titular hero's story via Netflix or Amazon. "There's a gold mine of awesome Mega City 1 stories."

As stated in a report from Screen Rant, Urban's response on Twitter was a direct response to the tribute posted by a fan who created a mock poster of "Dredd 2" as if it was a Netflix Original. This has sparked some interest with the fan community, who are now lobbying to get Netflix to take interest in a "Dredd" series with Urban back in the lead.

The report also points out that previous fan petitions have also approached HBO in regards to continuing the story of "Dredd," giving Urban and the other people behind the project another option beyond the streaming services of Amazon or Netflix. 

Netflix has been far more open in continuing cancelled or dormant franchises, however. The streaming network is responsible for reviving "Full House" and "Arrested Development." Netflix is now moving forward with a revival of "Gilmore Girls." Netflix also picked up "Longmire" when the show was cancelled by A&E after three seasons.

"Dredd" also starred Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson and Rakie Ayola as the Chief Judge. If a sequel to the film would be greenlit, it is undetermined if the actresses will reprise their roles or if they will be re-cast, keeping Urban as the only returning actor from the film.
