'Driveclub' PS Plus free edition download now available

US Playstation Blog

Fans of the almost-real racing sim "Driveclub" are rejoicing right now with the news that their favorite title has now made it as a free download in Sony's PlayStation Plus program.

Announcing the inclusion of the racing title in its subscribers perks program, Shuhei Yoshida, top boss at publisher SCE Worldwide Studios, wrote on the US Playstation Blog: "After a lot of hard work from the team at Evolution Studios, I'm pleased to announce that we are making the 'Driveclub' PlayStation Plus Edition available to all PlayStation Plus members starting on Thursday, June 25th."

The publisher was quick to point out, however, that the PS Plus Edition of the title is a different version from the "Driveclub" full game. It was announced two years ago and was originally scheduled to be released together with the full title in October 2014. However, Sony decided to postpone the free PS Plus edition and concentrate first on ironing out the kinks in the main game, which include online connectivity issues for its players.

In rolling out the PS Plus Edition, Sony has kept in mind the previous glitches. To keep the servers from overloading and causing the same issues that plagued the full title on its release last year, Sony will launch the online multiplayer mode of the PS Plus Edition gradually, giving access to online players in batches.

The blog post continued, "We know that this might be frustrating after your extra wait already, but hope you can understand that we are taking extra precautions to protect your experience when you do get online. We want to make sure we don't overload the servers as we invite millions of PS Plus members to download the game."

The free edition of "Driveclub" is exclusive to PS Plus members, and the extra content from the free release will still be available even if they already upgraded to the full version of "Driveclub."
