Driveclub PS4: Game's absence in October's PS Plus free game roster explained by developer Evolution Studio

Sorry, racing game fans and PlayStation Plus subscribers, the promised trial version of Evolution Studio's "Driveclub" will not be launched with the rest of the free games this week.

According to Game Informer, "Driveclub" was launched in the U.S. on Oct. 7 but it unfortunately came out on a bad start.

Players who downloaded the game complained that they were having problems connecting online. The developer immediately addressed the problem, advising players to avoid deleting then re-installing the game. Evolution Studios promised to investigate the reported server issue, and assured players that they are already doing their best to fix the problem.

This dilemma affected the release of the free trial version of the game in PlayStation Plus. Subscribers are expecting to download the game this October with other free titles like "Dust: An Elysian Tail" and "Spelunky" for PlayStation 4.

The developer issued a long statement to explain the game's absence in the roster of free PS Plus games this month.

The statement reads:

To our PS Plus fans, we're sorry you're having to wait longer to play, but we want to ensure that when you come on board, you get the best experience possible. Rest assured, if you've pre-ordered the full game upgrade from the PS Plus Edition, you will still get the full version of DRIVECLUB digitally, and if you can't get online you'll be able to get started offline like everybody else with single player mode as you start your DRIVECLUB tour. You'll still be able to earn fame, unlock cars and get to grips with all of the options for playing and creating your own events and challenges - and everything you do will be synchronised with the servers when you do get connected, so you can set-up a bunch of challenges to send out to your friends as soon as you are able to join each other online.

We fully appreciate how frustrating this is for everyone. We want you to get online with your club because racing, challenging and having fun together is what the game is all about. We know that racing with your friends online is what you've been waiting for and we are doing everything we can to deliver that experience to you as soon as possible.

Driveclub received mixed reviews after it was released exclusively for PlayStation 4 earlier this month. The Independent pointed out that the game offers beautiful scenery along the way, but the race itself lacks challenge. The report also said that it is quite easy to win the game as long as the players know how to hit the right buttons at the right time.

Other reviews mentioned that Evolution Studios failed to keep its promise to create a revolutionary race game that players had never experienced before. It seems like a number of fans were disappointed with how the highly anticipated game turned out.

For those who have no subscription to PlayStation Plus but still want to purchase "DriveClub," it has a standard retail price of $59.99.
