Duggars fan starts petition to save 19 Kids and Counting from cancellation over gay stance
Fans of the Duggar family are coming to their rescue in the wake of a petition calling for their 19 Kids and Counting reality TV show to be cancelled because of their views on marriage.
The Duggar family are traditionalists when it comes to marriage and sexuality.
A petition to have their show cancelled was launched back in August after Michelle Duggar publicly opposed an ordinance giving transgenders access to female toilets.
It has been signed over 150,000 people but has seen a surge in signatures in the last week especially, after the Duggars invited married couples to share their kissing photos on their Facebook page but then allegedly removed images of same-sex married couples.
In the petition description, the Duggars are accused of "ignorance and fear mongering".
"The claim that this ordinance would provide predators with access to women's restrooms in order to assault or leer at girls or women is nothing more than fear-mongering and spreading ignornace and hatred," it reads.
Now a counter-petition has been set up on the iPetitions website and has gained over 40,000 signatures since it launched three days ago.
"The Duggar Family is under attack from anti-marriage advocates for standing for traditional marriage," the petition states.
"We commend The Duggar Family for their brave stand in defending marriage as ordained by God between one man and one woman. No individual's sexual behaviour and chosen lifestyle has the right to redefine marriage."
The Duggars had started the kissing contest on their Facebook after Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald came under fire for a picture they shared of them having an intimate kiss.
Jessa's parents, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, responded by sharing their own photo mimicking the kiss and inviting others to share their own.
"God designed marriage to be a loving, dynamic relationship between a husband and wife for a lifetime. God loves marriage and it is supposed to be full of love, joy, fun and romance. Marriage is where romance belongs," they said in a statement supporting Jessa and Ben.
