Elder Scrolls Online for Xbox One, PS4 delayed 6 months; problems persist with hackers?

The Elder Scrolls Online hasn't been a massive success in the PC version, with all the bug problems, but the massively-multiplayer online game is still one of the most anticipated releases to console this year.

However, gamers interested in picking it up for their PS4 and Xbox One consoles have been told by Bethesda they will have to wait another six months.

The reason for the delay is the problems that have arisen in tailoring the game for the various formats.  

"​We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are still working to solve a series of unique problems specific to those platforms," Bethesda said.

"Integrating our systems with each console manufacturer's networks — which are both different from the PC/Mac system as well as different from each other-has been a challenging process. It has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn't going to be possible.

"Though we have made great progress, we have concluded that we'll need about six months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve."

Microsoft confirmed that gamers would still need an Xbox Live Gold membership on Xbox One if they want to play massively multiplayer online games like Elder Scrolls Online.  

The company's Phil Spencer told Joystiq that this was because of "engineering constraints, policy constraints and partner constraints". 

The good news for PS4 gamers is that Bethesda has confirmed they will not need to be PS Plus members.  

But will Bethesda be able to fix all the problems that the PC version has had so far?  A new patch has just been released to fix some of these, but LazyGamer reports that the game is being overrun by hackers.  It picked up on a post reporting automated players mining gold, bots that are created using stolen credit cards who then sell their gold to real players for real world cash.
