'Elder Scrolls 6' release date news: Bethesda says the game is coming but not soon

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - the current game in the franchiseBethesda Softworks

Bethesda's marketing executive Pete Hines has turned to Twitter to confirm that "Elder Scrolls VI" is not yet in active development. According to Hines, the game will be made eventually but not in anytime soon, indicating that it may not even be in early pre-production.

In an interview with MMORPG, Hines went even further to explain that the company doesn't just churn out "Elder Scrolls" and "Fallout" games as if someone was pressing buttons on a vending machine.

He also stated that game developer Todd Howard and the rest of the team didn't have to keep making "Fallout" or "Elder Scrolls" games, stating that they have earned the right to stretch their legs and develop the kind of game that they wanted instead of just putting out sequels for the next decade.

"I know what they're working on for the next decade, and I think all of them are things to get excited about, for different reasons, and once they come out, folks will enjoy them for what they are," Hines explained in the interview. It is unclear at this point if "Elder Scrolls VI" is a part of the projects they have planned.

With that in mind it is likely that the developers don't have a solid concept of what "Elder Scrolls VI" might be and the rumors of the game taking place in Argonia or across the entirety of Tamriel have no solid basis. Any rumor at this point should be taken with caution until Bethesda confirms they are in active production for "Elder Scrolls VI."

Gamespot reveals that the company is also interested in developing a VR game although are hesitant to make an announcement until they have something solid to present to the audience. Bethesda is planning on more mobile games following the success of "Fallout Shelter" and have just released their first TCG game, "The Elder Scrolls Legends."
