Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) and Joan (Lucy Liu) have interrogated quite a bunch of suspicious characters, but never like the one in their newest case in the upcoming episode of the CBS series "Elementary."
In "Who Is That Masked Man?" Hollywood Hills reports that three members of a local gang are found murdered, and the trail leads to someone the police least expect. An elderly woman will emerge as the prime suspect for the crime. This will baffle Sherlock and Joan, for how can someone so frail overcome several strong men? Does she have an accomplice, or is it a case of mistaken identity? The dynamic duo will have to find out.
Meanwhile, the promo suggests that Sherlock is finally ready to talk about his mother to Joan. In the clip, Morland Holmes (John Noble) is seen asking for his son's help to investigate the murder of his "second great love." The younger man tells his father that he knows how it feels to lose someone very important, likely pertaining to his mother's death. The scene cuts to Sherlock opening a conversation with Jane about the woman he adored since birth.
Back in October, executive producer Rob Doherty hinted that there would come a point in season 4 wherein details about Mrs. Holmes would be revealed. He said the mysterious woman was the reason why Sherlock and Morland's relationship have been difficult. Meanwhile, co-showrunner Jason Tracey recently shared with Entertainment Weekly that something big would be exposed in episode 14.
"Sherlock and Morland Holmes have never been close, but lately the ice has begun to thaw," Tracey shared with the news outlet. "'Who Is That Masked Man?' marks the return of a chill wind between father and son. While investigating the murder of Morland's second great love, Sherlock is brought face to face with a tragic revelation about the first, and is reminded that he truly is his mother's son," he added.
"Elementary" season 4 airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. EST on CBS.
