While rumors about the return of Natalie Dormer's character Jamie Moriarty remains unclear, fans of "Elementary" are still hoping to find Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) fall in love again when the show returns for season 5.

BreatheCast reported that the chances of Dormer's return to the crime procedural drama series continue to be slim despite bowing out of HBO's "Game of Thrones" after season 6 because she still has other projects on her plate. This means that she and Sherlock may not see each other again next season.

However, executive producer Rob Doherty teased that the legendary detective might be open to starting a new relationship with Fiona Helbron (Betty Gilpin) in season 5 after they started seeing each other last season.

"That is a story that has yet to resolve itself. That's assuming there is a resolution or a punctuation mark coming. I don't know that there is," the executive producer told Entertainment Weekly back in May. "Dating Fiona was a big step for him this season. As he expressed to her, he's never had a 'girlfriend' outside of Moriarty. Knowing what he knows now, it's hard to look back and call her a girlfriend."

Doherty also mentioned that Gilpin's character could possibly play an important role in Sherlock's life in season 5.

"As we get into next season, Fiona is someone that we would like to see again. We'll see what the state is for that relationship after a few months have passed," the executive producer stated.

Fans of the show are also looking forward to the development in Sherlock's relationship with his estranged father, Morland Holmes (John Noble). At the end of season 4, it was revealed that Morland took over the Moriarty crime organization in order to dismantle it from within. Will Sherlock thank his father for infiltrating the organization to keep him safe?

"Elementary" season 5 is slated to premiere on CBS on Sunday, Oct. 2.
