Elephone P7000 has right price and specs to compete with Samsung's Galaxy S6

Earlier, it was reported that Elephone was offering its P7000 at a pre-order price of $229.99. After the pre-order session has ended, the smartphone will be sold at a price of $239.99. In terms of hardware specifications and features, Elephone P7000 impresses in all categories, and is enough to give Samsung's Galaxy S6 a run for its money. In pure performance benchmarking terms, Samsung's homegrown Exynos 7420 SoC will make short work of MediaTek's MT6752 chipset present inside Elephone P7000.

This is because Exynos 7420 features the following quad-core and GPU package:

  • Quad-core ARM Cortex-A57 at 2.1 GHz
  • Quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 at 1.5 GHz
  • Mali-T760 with 8 cores (Elephone P7000 also features a Mali-T760, but with 2 processing cores)

MediaTek MT6752 features an octa-core Cortex-A53 with a clock speed of 2.0 GHz. While the processor's frequency has been increased compared to Lenovo's K3 Note, it will still be insufficient when zipping past Galaxy S6 in performance crunching numbers. However, it should be noted that Samsung's flagship offering carries an off-contract price of $599 while Elephone P7000 will be up for grabs at less than 50 percent of that price, making the latter the far better purchasing option.

Additionally, Samsung's 1440p resolution being rendered on its 5.1 inch screen size will drain the 2,550 mAh battery at a faster pace. Elephone P7000 comes shipped with a 5.5 inch screen size a 1080p resolution. The device's large body allows it to accommodate a 3,450 mAh battery, which will definitely provide more backup time compared to Samsung's handset. The amount of RAM is the same across both devices (3 GB), but Elephone P7000 features 16 GB of expandable internal memory, whereas Galaxy S6 comes in the 32, 64 and 128 GB capacity variants, with no microSD slot.

The secondary selling point of P7000 is that it provides support for seven different ROMs. They are as follows:

  • Android Lollipop (stock)
  • Android KitKat (stock)
  • Cyanogenmod
  • Xiaomi's MIUI
  • Meizu's Flyme OS
  • Huawei's EMUI
  • Freeme OS

Having seven different ROMs will be advantageous when users want to install a custom ROM on Elephone P7000, in case several issues start being displayed from the stock one. In short, Samsung's Galaxy S6 might possess impressive hardware specifications, but Elephone P7000's $240 price tag presents the ideal price/performance ratio to consumers.
