The past will come back to haunt Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) in the second season finale of Fox's "Empire."

The former couple seems to be inching their way back into each other's arms in the second half of season 2, but it does not mean that the power couple behind the Lyon family and Empire Entertainment will have a blissful life ahead of them.

"Lucious' crimes — and even some of Cookie's — are coming home to roost," executive producer Ilene Chaiken told Entertainment Weekly. "It's a payoff that's also the beginning of a real deep dive into Lucious and Cookie's past and the ghosts that never stop haunting them."

The report also mentioned that rapper Xzibit will appear in the season 2 finale as Shyne Johnson, a person who knows a lot of Lucious's illegal activities in the past. Shyne is also going to be a big part of season 3 and the entire plot of "Empire."

Chaiken revealed that the upcoming reunion wll also make Lucious and Cookie develop a warmer relationship with each other.

"By the time we get to the finale, there's going to be a very deep connection. They're going have gone through a couple more major events that are both shaking and, at the same time, unifying," the executive producer said.

Meanwhile, Lucious's relationship with Jamal (Jussie Smollett) will be further estranged as the father and son continue to campaign against each other to get the coveted ASA Award that the both of them were nominated for.

According to the teaser that executive producer Sanaa Hamri revealed to TVLine, "a very shocking thing happens, and it will change everything. It's twisted, delicious and thrilling. We're going to find out a lot of things — but not what people are expecting."

The season 2 finale of "Empire" airs on Wednesday, May 18.
