'Empire' season 2 spoilers: Jamal, Hakeem in dispute in episode premiere

The Lyon boys are not in good terms in the premiere episode of "Empire" season 2.Facebook/Fox

Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie's (Taraji P. Henson) boys clash when the Fox's drama series "Empire" returns for its second season.

Hollywood.com reports that the Lyon brothers will not be in good terms when the new installment returns this September. In a preview released by the network, Jamal (Jussie Smollett) is busy talking with his assistant Becky (Gabourey Sidibe) while Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) keeps on interrupting him. The older brother is insisting that Becky cover up for him in a previous engagement, but the latter will not hear of it as it can have a big effect on Empire Entertainment.

It appears that Hakeem has not grasped how important the conversation is, as he gets offended by the two shushing him. When Jamal eventually turns his attention on him, it is to tell his brother that he is not satisfied with the artwork that he submitted for the record. Hakeem is obviously pissed, as he rudely pushed him and announces he will take the matter to Cookie. As for Becky, she tells Jamal that both he and his brother are rude individuals.

Also in the trailer for the premiere episode called "The Devils Are Here," Cookie can be seen visiting a defeated Lucious in jail. Although she appears to be sympathetic, the official synopsis for season 2 states that she has not changed her plans to take over his records company. Lucious' ex-wife is still in cahoots with Hakeem, Andre (Trai Byers), and Anika (Grace Gealey) in finalizing the "hostile takeover" of Empire Entertainment.

Later in the episode, Cookie will even stage a star-studded #FreeLucious concert, perhaps in order to lull him into thinking that things are going well between them. Viewers also see Cookie's machination in the teaser, when Mimi (Marisa Tomei) wants to dance with Anika. Apparently, Mimi is a potential business partner and Mrs. Lyon is eager to please her, even if it means handing over one of her employees.

"Empire" season 2 will premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 9 p.m. on Fox.
