As per a report from Variety, it has been confirmed that singer Mariah Carey will guest star for "Empire" season 3. The announcement was made during this year's Television Critics Association press tour which was held in Beverly Hills, California.

The report reveals that Carey will be portraying a character named Kitty a "mega-superstar" singer that will approach Empire with the hopes of collaborating with Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) to work on a brand new, "explosive" song. However, production on the song won't go by smoothly and the duo will encounter a few obstacles.

It is further stated that after encountering these hurdles, Kitty will help Jamal push through his personal problems and eventually reach a musical breakthrough. This has gotten fans to speculate that the new song will be the breakout record that Empire needs.

Mariah Carey's appearance will air on Oct. 5.

At the time, showrunner Ilene Chaiken did state that if the possibility of getting Carey on the show was a "really exciting proposition."

Speaking to Yahoo! TV, "Empire" mainstay Taraji P. Henson, whoi plays Cookie Lyon, confirmed she had already filmed scenes with Carey.

"She was great. She's fabulous," Henson stated. "She's beautiful to look at. She brings a sense of what Mariah brings to the music industry. She brought it to our show. I'm grateful she spent time with little old us."
