Peter Crouch and Steven Gerrard left it late to save England with late goals against Trinidad & Tobago, giving England a 2-0 win and booking their place in the last 16 of the World Cup.

|PIC1|England found it hard to overcome the Trinidad & Tobago side that survived a number of clear-cut opportunities for England’s strikers. However, goals from Crouch with just 7 minutes remaining, and Steven Gerrard’s stunning left footed shot in injury time meant England have guaranteed their place in the last 16 with still a game to go.

Sweden also left it late to gain victory against Paraguay, with Freddie Ljungberg's 88th-minute winner knocking the South Americans out.

England remain joint second favourites to win the World Cup, and at least 50,000 England fans were in the German city of Nuremberg to cheer on the team for the game.

Back in Britain, the Church of England has also felt the effects of the World Cup. England fans have been turning to the churches, and asking for God to guide the nation’s football team to a good performance at the World Cup Finals.

The tension is building as the tournament progresses, and the prayer section of the Church of England website has seen a huge jump in the number of visitors.

|TOP|A spokesman for the Church of England has said the prayers section had seen a 28 percent increase in the number of visitors compared to the average over the previous four months.

The jump to 4,000 visits came after the prayer section posted up two World Cup prayers last month calling for God to bless the England football team during the tournament and all involved in the World Cup.

2. God of work and play, Lord of all the nations, guide, guard and protect all who work or play in the World Cup. May all who watch or engage find in this competition a source of celebration and a recognition of what it means to be made in the image of the One who played the cosmos into being. Amen.
