England vs Republic of Ireland takes place on Wednesday, and even though the game is labeled as a "friendly" there will be no love lost between the two sides. The game will kick off at 8 p.m. UK time, and can be watched online through free live stream via the link below.

This is the first match between the two sides since 1995, when the game ended up being abandoned after crowd trouble blighted the tie. The game was stopped shortly after kick off as hooligans in the England fans section of the stadium smashed up the stand, throwing bottles and broken plastic chairs onto Irish fans below.

Since that embarrassing match, the sides have never met again until now. Even though this will be a friendly there will be sure to be high tensions.

However, tonight's game takes place at Wembley in north London, where as the 1996 game was held in Ireland. This will be Ireland's first visit to Wembley since 1991, and is part of the Football Association's 150th anniversary celebrations, a schedule that also includes a game in Brazil on Sunday.

However, the England side will be missing a large portion of their first team players, with Steven Gerrard (shoulder), Andy Carroll (heel), Jack Wilshere (ankle), Tom Cleverley (calf) and Kyle Walker all missing out.

Robbie Keane will return to England where he played most of his career, after his new club Los Angeles Galaxy gave him permission to join up with the Ireland squad.

England are looking to use the friendly to prepare for their World Cup qualifying campaign which recommenced in September.

"It is important for me to use this opportunity to look at players once more as we prepare for our final four qualifying matches," said England manager Roy Hodgson. "These fixtures are part of The FA's 150th anniversary celebrations and some have used the word 'friendly' to describe these matches. However, in my book there is no such thing - these are crucial preparation matches for the qualification games."
