England's carbon 'footyprint' cut by Euro failure
England's failure to qualify for this summer's European Football Championships may not be such a bad thing for the environment, Germany's E.ON said Friday.
"By not qualifying for Euro 2008, there are potentially 70 million televisions that will be left switched off come kick-off time," the power and gas utility said in a statement.
This would create savings of around 1,336 tonnes of carbon dioxide, the equivalent emitted by 30 double decker buses, E.ON said.
The study did not include the emissions that would be saved from England fans not travelling to host countries Austria and Switzerland for the tournament.
