Essential launches beta access for Android Oreo
A few months since Google launched the latest version of its mobile operating system, Android Oreo, smartphone manufacturers are now finally moving towards releasing the version to their devices. Essential is the latest manufacturer to do so, as it opens its Android Oreo beta access to its users.
According to the manufacturer, users can now go to its developer portal and register to be part of the beta program. Interested Essential owners do not have to be mobile developers in order to participate in the beta phase, as long as they agree to use the beta version, which may be a little rough around the edges.
Essential notes that users of the Android Oreo beta may encounter increased battery drain when using Bluetooth, as well as Android Auto compatibility issues on specific vehicles. As with all beta releases, there may be more bugs that will only be discovered by the beta testers.
The Android phone maker has included step-by-step instructions for the download of the beta version, as well as a page where beta access users can leave their feedback.
There is no timeline yet on when the beta testing phase will end and the official version of the Android Oreo for Essential will be released. However, since Essential is using a pure version of the Android OS, it may not take that long before users can enjoy an official release of the new version.
Essential will not be the first hardware manufacturer to begin rolling out the Android Oreo operating system. Other brands like Samsung, OnePlus, Nokia, and Huawei have already launched their respective beta versions for Android Oreo.
Even though it has been a few months since Android Oreo was released, the version is installed on only 0.3 percent of all Android devices. Google looks to fix this ongoing problem moving forward with the inclusion of Project Treble, which would make it easier to roll out future software updates.
