The Evangelical Alliance UK (EAUK) has announced major changes in its leadership today. The new moves will see a new Executive Director as well as a new Public Policy Director come into the evangelical organisation’s body.

Mike Morris, a former CEO of Spring Harvest will take up the important role of Executive Director of the EAUK, and will now take charge of the day to day running of the Alliance, therefore allowing General Director Joel Edwards to fulfil a greater ambassadorial position.

To the post of Public Policy Director the EAUK has also appointed R. David Muir, and he will be responsible for overseeing the Theological and Public Affairs Departments and advancing the EAUK’s strategic approach in this area.

Morris, 51, has previously filled positions within the EAUK for 12 years in the 1980’s & 90’s and during that period he developed the public affairs side of the organisation.

The new Executive Director said, “The Alliance has the capacity to enable Christians to work together effectively in transforming society. It also offers a significant opportunity to encourage the Church that its voice is heard and understood from Westminster to grassroots level in our local communities. Over the next five years I hope to play a major part in making this vision a reality.”

Dr Muir, 47, has a wealth of experience in public policy and higher education. He has also been a member of the government’s Policy Action Team and a senior lecturer in history and Caribbean Studies at London Metropolitan University.

In addition to this, Muir also has an MA in Political Education and Public Policy and a PhD in Political Theology and Black Religious Communities in Britain.

Dr Muir is currently a member of the Evangelical Alliance’s commission of inquiry into Faith and Nation and was formerly a board member of the African and Caribbean Evangelical Alliance.

Also being a former governor of the London School of Theology, Dr Muir commented, “The Evangelical Alliance has a unique role to play in making the ‘Good News’ relevant and the prophetic challenge of evangelical truth publicly accessible. The Alliance already has a good reputation in the realm of public policy and I want to build on the hard work already done and continue to provide a Christian perspective and leadership that is clear, credible and challenging.”

The General Director of the Evangelical Alliance UK, Rev Joel Edwards expressed his delight at the appointments and said, “These are two key posts in terms of driving forward the Alliance’s good news message to society.”
