Finnish startup company Eve-tech has built the first ever crowd-developed 2-in-1 computer. Called the Eve V, the device is the result of the designers listening to the needs of what is now known as the Eve community. It is inspired by high-end laptop/tablet hybrids like the Surface Pro, but its biggest selling point besides the savings is that its features were decided on by an active community.

The idea about Eve V is that its features are customized by an active community of backers who voted on which features should appear on the device. After deliberation, what they got is a device that nearly trumps the Surface Pro in features and in price.

A review by The Verge stated that there is more value in buying an Eve V than buying Microsoft's flagship tablet.

For instance, both devices start at $799.99. However, for this value, one gets a kickstand and a keyboard cover for the Eve V— accessories not included in the entry-level Surface Pro.

There are also some risks involved when ordering the Eve V this early. The device's availability is limited to "flash sales," little windows of time in which customers can place orders. In these flash sales, the device can be sold out in as short as three hours. If the device ships with defects, a small company like Eve-tech may not have enough stores or service centers to cater the consumers repair demands.

Hardware-wise, the device is competitive. The Eve V sports a 12.3-inch Liquid Crystal Display, boasting a 2880x1920 resolution. It favors the IGZO screens manufactured by Sharp with its main components such as indium, gallium, zinc, and oxygen.

It comes in three versions, the cheapest equipped with 128 GB of storage, 8 GB of random access memory (RAM) and an Intel Core m3. The mid-range model comes with 256 GB storage, 8 GB RAM, and an Intel Core i5. The high-end version comes with a 512 GB storage, 16 GB RAM, and an Intel Core i7.

Eve-tech is a fledgling company headed by Konstantinos Karatsevidis, a Finnish entrepreneur and tech enthusiast. He stated that the idea for the Eve V came to him and his business partner when they read the comments about their earliest tablet, the Eve T1.

The next flash sale for Eve V will be on Dec. 3.
