The asymmetrical, cooperative/competitive shooter video game that was developed by Turtle Rock Studios brings something new to the table in terms of online and offline combat. Since the game has been developed on the CryEngine, it displays breathtaking visuals, stunning terrain and realistic character details. The game's core plot revolves around a group of human mercernaries called hunters, who square off against a different, but highly hostile breed of monsters that have been named the Goliath, Kraken, Wraith and Behemoth, according to their facial and structural features. Players can choose to play either faction, and will be granted different abilities of each controlled avater in order to aid them through the mission.

The monster that becomes initially available to play is the Goliath, which has its own set of abilities and attacks that will allow it to overcome the hunters and complete the necessary objectives at different levels. However, players can switch the tone of the gameplay by assuming the role of one of the four hunters, with each of them possessing various weaponry and firepower to defeat the monsters. The class of hunters have been listed below:

  • Assault
  • Support
  • Trapper
  • Medic

There will also be different modes to play, in which players can either assume the role of the monster or hunter. These modes are as follows:

Hunt mode

Hunters must kill the monster before it destroys the power relay while the monster's primary objective will be to destroy that power relay. Killing the hunters will be optional although they will impede the progress of the player to a great extent if they are not killed in the battlefield first.

Nest mode

Six Monster eggs must be destroyed by the hunters while the monster's primary objective is to protect them at all costs. Monsters can also hatch eggs to spawn a minion to turn the tide of the battle, but it will cost the player an egg. Hunters have 10 minutes to complete the objective.

Rescue mode

Injured colonists are to be saved by hunters. Each saved colonist will aid the hunters to search for more survivors as well as turn the odds against the monsters.

Defend mode

A starship's refueling station must be protected by hunters by a player controlling a fully evolved (or commonly known as as a stage 3) monster. The player will be aided by smaller minions to dismantle the refueling station before it completes providing the starship with the necessary amount of fuel.

Evolve was released on Feb. 10, 2015.
