'The Pirate Bay', EZTV down: fake sites emerge after police raid

A number of fake "The Pirate Bay" sites emerged after the Swedish police raided the servers behind the notorious torrent website. Opportunists jumped into the circus and put up websites that mirror The Pirate Bay.

Reports claim that the "pirates" are in the process of resurrecting the website using a brand new domain, and that the new link is the Costa Rice-based ThePirateBay.cr. This website directs web surfers to another domain that demands payment ranging from $4 to £4 for torrent files.

However, ThePirateBay.cr is a Pirate Bay proxy/mirror service.  It has no torrent content and heavily relies on the original website. The confusion is caused by the fact that some of the "proxy" homepages are still up, while its mother website has been shut down.

Meanwhile, Torrent Freak previously reported that The Pirate Bay tries to evade the law by moving to cloud-based virtual servers so it can quickly avoid raids that will close down the website. The website is now warning users about scammers trying to capitalize the raid using fake sites, asking for monetary compensation to access torrent files. The public are reminded that some people take advantage of the incident and will come up with sites claiming to be "the new Pirate Bay." These people are probably aiming for traffic or they might cause some trouble to devices.

The undying issue of piracy

Copyright holders and public officials have been in a long battle against piracy as the issue has not ceased, especially with the advent of new technology. Various devices give rise to new ways of piracy. It is hard to put an end to the problem as a lot of people support it. The Pirate Bay is only one of the most popular file sharing sites where people go to download files of copyrighted materials like movies, music files and documents. The website also drives a lot of traffic everyday.
