'Falling Skies' season 5 premiere spoilers, trailer: New cast members and director

"Falling Skies" season 5 will premiere with its first episode on June 28. Contrary to previous seasons, season 5 is set to begin moments after the events of season 4's finale. In an interview with Examiner, David Eick, Falling Skies' executive producer, said, "we pick up season 5 literally moments after the end of season 4." In the same interview, Eick revealed, "I will say that that is not the last you've seen of skitterized humans." The skitterized/mutated humans were created by the Espheni/Overlords, the masterminds for the invasion on Earth, to serve as front liners for their army in the anticipated battle against the Great Enemies, which drove them from their home.

The coming Falling Skies season will be the last of the series and the first one not directed by Greg Beeman. Following the departure of the show's former director and executive producer is the addition of Olatunde Osunsanmi, who will act as Beeman's replacement. Another addition to the show is Catalina Sandino Moreno. Moreno is set to play Isabella, an academic militant prior to the invasion, but introduces herself as a nurse to gain trust.

In interview with Airun Garky
, Drew Roy, who plays Hal Mason, revealed that even though it looks bleak for the show's main protagonist Tom Mason at the end of season 4, he will likely not end up anywhere else but Earth. The actor further commented that how Tom Mason gets back to the planet is the mystery. Roy went on further and discussed that the final words of the protagonist will be the "pivot" of the events that will take place in Season 5.

Following season 5's announcement, TNT released a synopsis for the season, which says, "As season five opens, all breed of beast and mutant are running rampant on earth. The Espheni's power core has been destroyed, and humans are now ready to fight on their terms, even if it means resorting to hand-to-hand combat against the enemy. After four years of being tortured, imprisoned and mutated and having their loved ones stolen from them, Tom and the 2nd Mass are filled with rage, ready to destroy the enemy in an all-out battle to determine the fate of Earth."

TNT has also released a new trailer for Falling Skies Season 5 last May 19. The trailer is appropriately titled as "The End".
