It seems "Fallout 3" is not falling out of the gaming community's radar any moment as the game is reportedly getting a remake using the graphics engine of its successor "Fallout 4."

With that said, this is not an official effort and the responsibility actually falls on the hands of modders who make modifications (mods) for open-world games such as "Fallout 3 & 4" as well as "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," with all three having been made by the same developers. This means that the "Fallout 3" remake will essentially be a mod for "Fallout 4," and might even require an official "Fallout 4" installation depending on the requirements of the modders.

This effort is in part, due to the fact that "Fallout 3" is nearly a decade old this year since it was released late into 2008 back then and was a highly celebrated video game. The modders call their indie group Road to Liberty and have named the remake project "Project Capital Wasteland" since "Fallout 3" takes place in a fictional post-apocalyptic Washington D.C., which is often referred to in-game as the Capital Wasteland.

But perhaps the real reason "Fallout 3" was being remade into "Fallout 4" was that a lot of people simply like the gameplay of the former, some even more so than the latter. This is quite a dilemma since the graphics engine of "Fallout 3" is already outdated and is even clunky and awkward per today's standards. Hence, the unofficial effort of Road to Liberty to bring the best of both worlds to fans.

The team is also making quite a considerable amount of progress for the remake and has released a new video showcasing the game and how it translates into "Fallout 4's" newer engine. It is worth noting that "Fallout 4" was released back in late 2015 making its graphics still modern for today's standards.

Road to Liberty is also recruiting new talent for the mod and accepting donations since the group is not getting any official funding from the developers for their work. Those interested can visit their remake's official website.
