'Fallout 4' DLC mods news: Mods will launch for Xbox One after 'Far Harbor' DLC

A look at the mysterious island of Far Harbor coming to "Fallout 4" on May 19 Bethesda

Mods have always been a big part of the gaming community, particularly for games developed by Bethesda such as "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" and "Fallout 4." Console players have not had the luxury of enjoying these mods but Bethesda has announced that Xbox One players will finally gain mod support after the launch of the "Far Harbor" DLC.

As stated in a report from IGN, PC players have been able to enjoy mod support for the game for two weeks now. "Far Harbor" will be released next week and the closed beta for Xbox One mod support begins on May 19. PS4 players will have to wait for another month before they will be able to download or make their own mods for "Fallout 4."

Mod support will allow players to create their own custom items such as new kinds of weapons and armor into the game. Some mods are so elaborate that they completely alter the game's physics or graphical capabilities. It is unknown at this point what the full restrictions are in regards to "Fallout 4" mods are for the consoles.

Bethesda's announcement also points out that over 1 million players have downloaded mods ever since the option became possible for the PC. Some of the most popular mods include the option to wield a "Star Wars" lightsaber, glow-in-the-dark collectibles, a more powerful version of the BFG weapon and custom armors.

Mods are also pointed out to have been a big part of the experience in playing Bethesda video games ever since "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" launched over a decade ago, which came with the "Elder Scrolls Construction Set" which was a basic tool kit for players to make their own mods.

"Fallout 4: Far Harbor" DLC launches May 19, with the closed beta for Xbox One mod support quickly following after.
