'Fallout 4' news: Detailing the game's character system

"Fallout 4" is providing players a revamped character system that promises to provide them with an enjoyable and unique experience based entirely on the decisions they make when it comes to how to improve inside the game.

To start, "Fallout 4" has what is known as S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats. Basically, the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats dictate how a specific character can progress inside the game, and what abilities or perks they might gain as they continue to get stronger.

As indicated by those periods, S.P.E.C.I.A.L. is actually an acronym that breaks down to strength, perception, endurance, charisma, intelligence, agility, and luck, as outlined by game developer and publisher Bethesda Softworks.

Early on in "Fallout 4," players will be given the chance to allot their S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points as they see fit. They will be given 28 points to start and each stat can be raised up to level 10. Players can decide to max out a stat if they would like, and they will be given another opportunity to change their allotment at another point in the game if they decide they prefer a different character build.

Each respective rank of the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats also has corresponding perks assigned to them, so players will need to spend points to get some of the abilities they want in the game.

Other important details of the character system in "Fallout 4" include the fact that there will no longer be a level cap in the game, and players can even get stronger even after the main storyline is completed, according to Polygon.

In related news, there will be no downloadable content (DLC) released for "Fallout 4" that will be timed exclusive, according to Cinema Blend.

The move is a stark departure from Bethesda's strategy which offered timed exclusive content for "Fallout 3" and "Fallout: New Vegas" that was favorable mostly for Xbox 360 and PC owners.
