Fallout 4 release news: Bethesda accepts bottle cap payment for copy of game

Bethesda has chosen to accept an unconventional form of payment after a fan sent them bottle caps in exchange for a copy of "Fallout 4" when it is finally released on November 11, 2015.

The fan sent exactly 2,240 bottle caps to Bethesda Softworks in the hopes that the company would deem his efforts fit of being rewarded with a copy of the highly-anticipated open-world game, according to Gamereactor.

The fan, known as Seth, said he originally came up with the idea to purchase his very own copy of "Fallout 4" using bottle caps after playing the previous entry in the franchise, according to Geek.

He said it took him over seven-and-a-half years to accumulate enough bottle caps to send over to Bethesda Softworks.

In total, the 2,240 bottle caps weighed over 11.2 pounds after being placed into to two separate shipping boxes.

Bethesda did not immediately respond to the fan's shipment of bottle caps, leading many to speculate that the effort would ultimately prove to be unsuccessful, but that is no longer the case.

The fan broke the news of Bethesda Softworks and specifically Matt Grandstaff, Global Community Lead PR at the company, accepting his proposition later on, according to IGN.

"He told me since I was the first person to do this, I would be receiving a copy of the game this November, and that he would be running my caps over to deposit them at the People's Bank of Point Lookout," said the fan.

As for other fans who may be thinking of doing the same thing to secure their own copy of "Fallout 4," they may end up being sorely disappointed. Grandstaff himself said that while the fan who originally pulled off the feat certainly demands recognition, the rest of the team at Bethesda may not be too happy if thousands more bottle caps start arriving at the office.

"Fallout 4" will be released on November 11, 2015.
