'Fallout 4' tips: Building better settlements

Seeing a settlement emerge from the ruined remains of the Commonwealth Wasteland can be one of the most satisfying things players can experience inside "Fallout 4."

Settlements are notoriously difficult to make properly, however, but there are some things players can do to make things a whole lot easier.

First off, players need to know that two perks in particular figure greatly into making better settlements inside "Fallout 4."

According to The Inquisitr, these two are the Local Leader and Scrapper perks.

The Local Leader perk will grant players the ability to share items across their settlements more efficiently, and when upgraded even further, it can even allow them to create their own stores. In order to get the Local Leader perk, players first need to raise their Charisma attribute up to six and then invest the points necessary from there.

As for the Scrapper perk, this one is important mainly because it will allow players to extract more raw materials from pieces of equipment they will be dismantling. This will allow "Fallout 4" players to amass a collection of essential materials even faster and have more of them on hand whenever they are needed. Players need at least level five Intelligence before they can put points toward the Scrapper perk.

Once structures have been built inside a settlement, they can feel a bit ordinary without at least some decorations present.

According to The Guardian, one way for "Fallout 4" players to jazz up their settlements even further is to look for the Picket Fences magazines. The more of these magazines the players collect, the more items get added to their list of possible creations. There are five Picket Fences magazines scattered all throughout the Commonwealth Wasteland.

One last tip for the settlement builders in "Fallout 4" is to simply hoard as much stuff as they can. All of the items players can pick up in the game have a purpose, and they will likely yield at least a few raw materials necessary for building structures inside "Fallout 4."
