Canadian singer Justin Bieber just made an incredibly selfless gesture this Christmas.

Every year on Christmas Day, musicians from all over the world vie for the U.K. Official Christmas Number 1 spot, according to CBC. Just a few hours before the winner was announced, Bieber's song "Love Yourself" was head to head with a song called "A Bridge Over You," which was sung by a group of nurses, doctors, and many others from England's National Health Service's (NHS) Lewisham and Greenwich Choir.

As much as he wanted to claim the top spot, Bieber encouraged his 72 million Twitter followers to help the NHS Choir get to number one instead.

"I'm hearing this UK Christmas race is close...but the @Choir_NHS single is for charity. So...," he writes on his Twitter account (@justinbieber). "...so for 1 week it's ok not to be #1. Let's do the right thing & help them win. It's Christmas. @Choir_NHS good luck http://www.nhsno1.com/download."

Bieber's plea worked, because "A Bridge Over You" managed to overtake his song with 127,000 sales. He later congratulated the choir by posting, "Just heard the news. Amazing. That is what Christmas is all about. @Choir_NHS congrats!! Very cool."

The NHS Choir was extremely touched by what Bieber did. They even offered, "Next time you're in the UK, we should have a sing-along together. Thank you so much."

Netizens raved about Bieber's kind gesture and called him a "class act" and a "gentleman." Many claim they have just become "Beliebers" because of what he did.

Bieber was not really a loser in the race because he snagged the second spot. His other singles "Sorry" came in third while "What Do You Mean" ranked fifth. All of the singles came from his latest album "Purpose."
