Ubisoft finally broke their silence regarding the speculations about a "Far Cry 3" announcement after the photo that they posted on their social media accounts caused several speculations.

The controversial photo, which were both posted on Facebook and Instagram, showcased the action-adventure game's Rook Island location. The one on Facebook has a French caption that reportedly translates into the phrase "an island we never truly left." Meanwhile the one on Instagram means, "Does that remind you of something?"

Since the game has been out in the market for five years, fans reportedly believed that the posts could be an indication that the game developer were releasing the game's sequel or at least a remastered version of "Far Cry 3." It could have also been a tease for an upcoming prequel for the "Far Cry" franchise.

However, Game Informer reported that a Ubisoft public relations representative made a statement about the photo of the Rook Island to clarify that it was only meant as a "throwback post." This means that they were not planning to tease anything about the game and they might have no plans to release another sequel of "Far Cry" anytime soon.

"Far Cry 3" was first released in 2012. It centered on the adventures of protagonist Jason Brody who must save all of his friends after being abducted by pirates during their supposed fun vacation in a tropical island in the middle of the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

The game was followed up by a stand-alone expansion pack called "Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon" in 2013. Then, the franchise's fourth installment titled "Far Cry 4" was released in 2014. Ubisoft has yet to make another announcement regarding the future of the critically acclaimed video game franchise.

However, it can still be expected that Ubisoft has something up on their sleeves regarding the "Far Cry" video game series.
