A few months back, it has been revealed that Ewan McGregor will play the two lead roles in the third season of "Fargo." He will play parole officer Ray Stussy and the self-styled "Parking Lot King of Minnesota," Emmit Stussy. A major plot line of the upcoming season is the brothers' feud, which started because of a vintage stamp.

The stamp features the mythological character Sisyphus pushing a boulder up a mountain, a not-so-subtle hint at the show's tendency to dwell on the theme of futility. It is still unclear how this triggered the sibling rivalry between the two, but it may be connected with the inheritance issue they are involved in.

While "Fargo" is known for its dark comedy, a potentially serious issue will be discussed in the third season. According to "Fargo" showrunner Noah Hawley, the events of the third season was shaped by the 2008 financial crisis. He said in an interview with TV Guide: "I thought it was interesting if one of the characters is a real estate magnate who's the Parking Lot King of Minnesota. What were those last two years like for him? What did he have to do to survive this financial collapse?"

In that same interview, he answered his own question. Hawley said that in order to make sure his business survives the financial crisis, Emmit took out a loan from a shady character. He later discovers that the money was not, in fact, a loan, but rather an investment.

The third season is set in Minnesota in 2010. According to Hawley, the episodes will tackle just how far people will go for money. One character that will personify this is V.M. Varga (David Thewlis), who was described as a "true capitalist," a greedy man who is willing to commit violence to get things done his way. According to Hawley, while the sibling rivalry between Ray and Emmit is central to the story of season 3, it is only a chunk of the bigger picture, which is where Varga moves in.

The season 3 of "Fargo" will premiere on April 19, Wednesday, at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
