'Fast and Furious 8' spoilers: Eva Mendes, Kurt Russell to join cast? to take place in New York

"Furious 7" has already broken the record as the highest domestic box office hit for the month of April, earning $143.6 million during its opening weekend. The success has led to the inevitable green lighting of "Fast and Furious 8." After all, this has now become the biggest action franchise not based on a book or superhero property like "The Hunger Games" or "Avengers."

Prior to the release of "Furious 7," actor Vin Diesel guest starred on the "Jimmy Kimmel Show," as cited by Entertainment Weekly, where he revealed some of the plans for the next entry in the franchise. More particularly, he spoke about bringing back actor Kurt Russell for future installments.

Diesel also mentioned that "Furious 8" would take place in New York City, making it the first film in the franchise to take place in the East Coast.

Another famous talent fans could look forward to is Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren. During an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Mirren stated that one of her dreams is to be in a "Fast and Furious" movie. Perhaps "Furious 8" could grant her that wish.

El Mayimbe of Latino-Review also posted on Twitter that the studios are working hard to bring Eva Mendes back for the eighth installment.

According to his post, "With #fast7 now in the record books, the upcoming NY based #Fast8 story will depend on whether they can bring back Eva Mendes' character: US Customs Agent Monica Fuentes."

While it is highly unlikely that the future success of "Furious 8" would depend on one actress making an appearance, it does make sense for Eva Mendes to return as Monica Fuentes now that the main characters have evolved into espionage agents.

Eva Mendes was the leading lady in "2 Fast 2 Furious" and made a cameo appearance during the mid-credits scene of "Fast Five."
