For the first time in the history of the franchise, the next "Fast and Furious" film is now set to take place in New York City.

It would seem odd for a franchise that has run for as long as this one has to have previously never set foot in such an iconic location, but it would seem that it is better late than never in this case.

The news that "Fast and Furious 8" would be taking place in New York was revealed by none other than the movie's star, Vin Diesel, during an appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon," Games Radar reported.

As for how the franchise will be making use of the iconic cityscape they have to play around with is still a mystery, as Diesel did not elaborate beyond stating the location.

Aside from revealing the location of the next "Fast and Furious" movie, Diesel also said that the next installment of the franchise will be the first in a new trilogy.

According to Cinema Blend, it is believed that the planned trilogy will also be wrapping up the franchise for good.

F. Gary Gray was just recently named as the director of the upcoming film, though it's unclear who else will be showing up in "Fast and Furious 8."

Diesel is a lock to return, but the rest of the cast is a bit more up in the air.

Jordana Brewster, the actress who played the role of Mia in the previous films in the franchise, has indicated that she is still unsure of whether or not her character will be showing up again. Brewster played the onscreen wife of dearly departed actor Paul Walker in the franchise, thus making her role in the upcoming film a little bit more uncertain.

The good news for fans is that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has already confirmed that he will star in the next film, although there are still question marks surrounding the rest of the cast.
