'Fast and Furious 8' release date, plot news: Kurt Russell returns as Mr. Nobody; Cara Delevingne is new villain
Fans of Mr. Nobody will be excited to know that the government agent who worked with Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) in "Furious 7" will again star on the franchise's eighth installment.
Ever since Diesel confirmed that "Fast and the Furious 8" is already in the works, rumors concerning the cast and the plot continue to hound the Internet. This time, though, the news that Kurt Russell will be reprising his role as the wily secret agent appears to be true.
According to the International Business Times, Diesel has recently posted an Instagram photo of himself together with the veteran actor in what looked like the set of the movie. He captioned it "Toretto Tuesday."
Even though producer Neal Moritz earlier said that the screenplay for the sequel is still under works, the website posits that the photo is an evidence that the production has already started for "Fast and Furious 8."
Mr. Nobody was last seen in the movie waiting for his medical team to arrive. He had been shot in an ambush set by Mose Jakande (Djimon Hounsou) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham). He was the one who recruited Toretto and the gang to locate Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) and her hacking device, the God's Eye.
In a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Russell has hinted on his character's return in the franchise. He said that Mr. Nobody could have a bigger role and may be seen in more than one series. The fact that his fate was "open-ended" in "Furious 7" was a giveaway that Diesel has future plans for the operative.
"I have an idea, a feeling of what Vin likely wants to do in the future that this personality could be involved. We created a character that I believe is, you know, a mystery man, he is Mr. Nobody we do not know his real name and you cannot figure out exactly the world he is in and I think that is fascinating," he said.
Meanwhile, rumors that Cara Delevingne may also star in the eighth installment are still making rounds online. The English model and actress previously expressed her interest in playing the villain for the blockbuster series. According Enstarz, however, Delevingne could portray the other Toretto sibling, as Mia (Jordana Brewster) might bow out of the movie due to Paul Walker's death.
"Fast and Furious 8" is scheduled to be released on April 14, 2017.
