Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his group of survivors may be safely tucked inside the Alexandria Safe Zone while "The Walking Dead" is on its season break, but another group of post-apocalyptic survivors will soon embark on their own zombie-centric adventure in AMC's new spin-off series called "Fear the Walking Dead."

The companion series for the popular horror TV show based on the comics of the same title will begin in late summer this year. The new show will start off during the earlier phase of the zombie outbreak, before the events in "TWD" began.

According to earlier reports posted on The Hollywood Reporter, the first season of "Fear the Walking Dead" will feature a character from the original series' first season. It is not clear, however, if the said character will develop throughout the entire season or if they will only appear in a single episode.

AMC and series producer Gale Anne Hurd is still mum about the major details of the show, but she talked about the choice of location for the new spin-off in an interview with Deadline

"As a fourth-generation Angeleno, I certainly like to see it depicted how my friends, family, and colleagues would survive. Now we get an opportunity to see with a very different type of group than the type we encountered in Atlanta on The Walking Dead," the series executive producer said.

"Fear the Walking Dead" will feature new stars, with "Gang Related's" Cliff Curtis and "Sons of Anarchy's" Kim Dickens as the two main characters. They will portray Sean Cabrera and Nancy Tomkins, respectively, single parents with troubled kids who are affected by the zombie outbreak in Los Angeles.

Other cast members of the show include Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey, who will portray the roles of Nancy's children, Nick and Ashley.

The actors who will portray the roles of Sean's son Cody and ex-wife Andrea, Ashley's boyfriend Matt, and Nick's best friend Carter are still unannounced at the moment.
