"Fear the Walking Dead" season 1 is coming to a close, with the finale episode set to premiere this Oct. 4. The penultimate episode revealed that the National Guard kept over 2,000 infected people within a closed area, and according to the Hollywood Reporter the final episode will reveal what Daniel (Ruben Blades) plans to do with all these zombies.

"He knows that there are 2,000 people there so it's the idea that there are that many walkers behind those doors and now Daniel knows about it," says showrunner Dave Erickson. "Daniel is quicker to accept the idea of what's behind those doors - it's not that they're zombies, it's that they're a threat. And for him, anything that's a threat, there is an efficient way to deal with that."

The penultimate episode also revealed that Daniel was the opposite of all the stories he had told his daughter, most importantly the fact that he was the cruel persecutor back during the war in El Salvador instead of being the prisoner that was persecuted. According to Erickson, this revelation hints at what kind of actions Daniel may pull off in the finale.

Erickson then revealed that "Cobalt," which in episode 5 was explained to be a command word that would let the National Guard know it was time to evacuate the Los Angeles area and "humanely terminate" all civilians.

In the flagship series, it was mentioned that Atlanta City had been bombed by the US military and it is possible that this "humane termination" also refers to Los Angeles getting bombed in the hope of eradicating all the zombies. The only area that survived was the hospital where Beth (Emily Kinney) died.

It is possible that Erickson's use of the term "ticking clock" may be referring to Cobalt being executed or Daniel possibly unleashes the zombies to stop the National Guard from killing those who are still alive.

"Fear the Walking Dead" episode 6 airs this Oct. 4.
