In just a couple of weeks, "Fear the Walking Dead," the companion series to AMC's "The Walking Dead," will finally go on air, which means that "TWD" fans will have a glimpse of what is happening in another part of the U.S. during the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. 

While the series executives said that "Fear the Walking Dead" will not be a prequel to the original series, fans will see how the residents of California deal with the strange phenomenon before Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) group battles the full-blown walkers in the streets of Georgia. 

According to early reports, the time frame for the companion series is set during the time when Rick is still in a coma. However, it will not delve into the cause of the zombie outbreak. Instead, the series will focus on the impact of the outbreak in the lives of the people, particularly in a tension-filled household who has no choice but to stick together — despite their animosity toward each other — in order to survive. 

"Even though we start from a very specific family-drama place, the difficulties and conflicts they have will be quickly exacerbated by the apocalypse," series co-creator Dave Erickson earlier told Variety. 

The story revolves around the complicated household setting consisting of high school English teacher Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) and his fiancée, guidance counselor Madison Clark (Kim Dickens). They live with Madison's children Nick (Frank Dillane), a teenager who is struggling with substance addiction, and Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), while Travis reaches out to his angry son Christopher (Lorenzo James Henrie) who lives with his mother Liza (Elizabeth Rodriguez). 

Since the series is focused on the people and how they deal with the outbreak, viewers of "TWD" should not expect to see the cause of the apocalypse in the upcoming series. 

In another news, series executive producer Greg Nicotero earlier revealed their future plans for the companion series as AMC has already ordered a second season. 

In an interview with the Daily Dead, Nicotero said, "We'll start shooting the first of fifteen episodes for season two sometime in November or December, so I think the plan is to have a zombie TV show on 52 weeks a year. In The Walking Dead we had six episodes for our first season and I think we did twelve or thirteen in our second season."
