"Fear the Walking Dead" season 1 ended with the protagonists deciding to hop onto Strand's (Colman Domingo) yacht, the Abigail. According to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Dave Erickson confirmed that the characters' stay on the yacht will be much longer than fans predicted.

According to the report, Colman Domingo has been promoted to series regular and the production for the second season has been moved to Baja, Mexico where majority of the season will be filmed within Baja Studios, the same studio responsible for the ocean seas in James Cameron's "Titanic."

"If you look at Strand's yacht, it's a pretty handsome vessel," Erickson explained. "It's something that you can survive on for a good period of time, and that's something others might covet. So when you get to the question of what's worse, walker or human, we'll continue that theme."

He also explained that there will be thousands of others trying to find safety in the seas and that Strand's yacht will not be the only one out in the open waters. It is hinted that there may be many other humans who will try to steal the yacht from the protagonists.

Erickson also confirmed that there will still be scenes on land and that the series will shift in between the two settings. It is likely that the main cast of characters will need to hit land every now and then in order to gather supplies such as food and fresh drinking water. It may be during these moments that walkers or other humans would attack.

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, the change of setting may energize the series. Despite the show's critical acclaim, fans have been quite vocal about the slow pace of the first season and this may change with the shift to the open sea. 

"Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 is scheduled to return in 2016.
