'Fear the Walking Dead' season 2B spoilers: new preview shows Nick in a tight spot

Fear the Walking Dead season 2AMC

The midseason finale of "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 saw Nick (Frank Dillane) intentionally leave his family behind and begin to wander off on his own. A new teaser clip showcases what sort of trouble Nick will find himself in, and in an interview with TV Line, showrunner Dave Erickson reveals what may be going through the character's mind when the series returns.

The video clip, courtesy of Comic Book, showcases Nick waking up on top of a vehicle. As seen in the midseason finale, his clothes and skin are covered in blood and this would allow him to blend in with the hordes of undead. However, his guise doesn't appear to work this time and a large group of walkers start making their way toward him.

It is speculated that this is when a group, led by Luciana (Danay Garcia), will arrive and rescue him. Luciana's official character description states that she too believes the walkers are not inherently bad and this will draw a connection between the two characters.

Erickson explained that while Nick chose to leave his family, Luciana was orphaned throughout the apocalypse and not by choice. Despite this difference, they share a lot in common and while they might not have a romantic relationship the two will likely bond as close friends who have similar opinions about the world.

It is also explained that for Nick, the zombies are his new addiction and this may help alleviate him from his former addiction to illegal substances.

"I don't know if it's craziness so much as an addiction - he's found his replacement for heroin," Erickson explained. "I think that there's an actual physiological reaction he gets when he's walking among the dead. So it's less that he's lost his mind and more that he's found his new fix."

"Fear the Walking Dead" season 2B premieres on Aug. 21.
