This coming season of the successful spinoff series of AMC's "The Walking Dead" promises to be the most exciting one in the entire series, according to showrunner Scott M. Gimple.

Season 3 of "Fear the Walking Dead" ended with a bang — literally, when Nick Clark (Frank Dillane) sacrificed his life to blow up the Gonzales Dam in the hopes of taking out as many of the proctors as he can with him and ensure that his mother Madison (Kim Dickens) and sister Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) are able to escape safely.

His plan didn't work as expected, however, as the explosions caused a tremendous backflow in the current, causing the water to suck his family's getaway into the dam instead of carrying it further away. The episode finishes with ambiguity, as it was never revealed what happened to Madison, Alicia, and Victor Strand (Colman Domingo), who was in the boat with the two — although the show's co-creator David Erickson later confirmed that Madison is alive.

Fans can expect even bigger things to happen in the next season starting with major changes and additions to the cast and crew.

It was reported last year that Erickson stepped down from being the showrunner in order to focus on much bigger projects that AMC has given him. He was later replaced by Ian Goldberg, who is known for producing the hit fairy tale series "Once upon a time."

The fourth season is set to introduce new characters to be played by newcomers Maggie Grace, Jenna Elfman, and Garret Dillahunt. Grace, who rose to fame as Liam Neeson's daughter Kim in the "Taken" series, plays Althea, whom is described by Goldberg as a legitimate survivalist even before the zombie apocalypse.

"Althea is someone who is uniquely qualified to survive — to thrive, even — in this world because of who she was before the apocalypse," He said.

Season four is also going to give a lot of fans what they have been hoping for since the show picked up steam — a crossover with the main series.

The show will feature the survivors crossing paths with Lenny James' Morgan, who is a major character in "The Walking Dead," and will most probably enter the show during the phase before or after he has already lost his son, as co-showrunner Andrew Chamblis said in Cinemablend.

As Morgan Jones steps into the world of 'Fear The Walking Dead,' he'll be continuing the journey he began on 'The Walking Dead' way back in the pilot.

Season 4 of "Fear the Walking Dead" is expected to premiere this spring on AMC.
