E3 2018 is upon us and EA Sports has been giving more updates on its long awaited football game FIFA 19. 

The big announcement from EA Sports at today's livestreamed conference was the addition of a separate UEFA Champions League tournament mode - the first time the UEFA Champions League has been a part of a FIFA game in 10 years. 

Players will be able to create their own custom version of the tournament as they advance on from the Group Stages.

The Champions League is the setting of the last part in The Journey: Champions story mode.  According to Polygon, the third stage will let players take on the role of soccer star Alex Hunter in addition to working their way through story missions for his sister Kim Hunter and friend Danny Williams.

Players will be able to get a taster of the action thanks to a free trial for FIFA 18 that includes the World Cup mode and can be taken up on Origin for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for a limited time only.

FIFA 19 is coming to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC and the release date has been confirmed as September 28, 2018. 

Ronaldo had been the hot favorite to grace the cover this year and that expectation proved correct in part as he will be appearing on the cover together with Neymar Jr.

EA Sports executive producer Aaron McHardy shared his excitement over winning the Champions League licence in an interview with FourFourTwo in which he revealed the scope of what the agreement means for the game. 

"We're extremely excited for the Champions League to be joining FIFA 19. And It's not just the Champions League that the licence gives us: we're also bringing the Europa League and Super Cup to the game in a variety of different ways," he said. 

"This gives a more authentic football experience to our players, which is something that we strive to do every year."
