"Fifty Shades of Grey," the upcoming American erotic romantic drama film directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, will be getting sequels. Even though there are still two days remaining before the film is released, it is no surprise that there are already plans to transform it into a trilogy since the novel series on which it is based has three books. 

According to Vanity Fair, "Fifty Shades of Grey" has been the fastest selling film for advanced viewing in the R-rated movie category. In addition to the aforementioned accolade, the book trilogy was also able to outsell the "Harry Potter" series, at least on Amazon U.K. 

After being premiered at a fan screening that took place in New York City on Feb. 6, Taylor-Johnson announced that two more films will be made, with the second film to be released in 2016. The film currently stars Dakota Johnson, who plays Anastasia "Ana" Steele, a literature student, while Jamie Dorman plays the role of the wealthy yet enigmatic Christian Grey. 

Ana Steele does a favor for her roommate Kate Kavanagh (played by Eloise Mumford) in which she interviews Christian Grey, with the plot revolving around Steele and Grey as the former discovers some of the latter's secrets and decides to explore her own needs and desires. 

Back in 2012, it was rumored that author E.L. James felt that casting Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart would be "weird. " There were also later rumors that Ian Somerhalder and Chace Crawford were expressing interest in playing a lead role in the film. However, Somerhalder allegedly later admitted that if had been considered, he would automatically be embroiled in a scheduling conflict that would take place between the film and the CW series, "The Vampire Diaries," in which he plays Damon Salvatore. 

"Fifty Shades of Grey" will be released in theaters on Friday, Feb. 13.
