Fans of role-playing games (RPG) have yet another reason to celebrate the arrival of the new year, as Square Enix has announced that "Final Fantasy IX" will be coming soon to personal computers (PCs) and smartphones.

Square Enix has already outlined some of the basic requirements for those who will be looking to get the game for their smartphones. 

For Apple devices, "Final Fantasy IX" will require the iOS 7.0 OS or something newer. Square Enix also recommends that prospective players use an iPhone 5s or something newer to download the game. "Final Fantasy IX" will also be coming to the iPad, iPad Air, iPad Mini, and iPod Touch, although not all versions of the aforementioned devices will be able to handle the game.

For Android devices, Square Enix is advising prospective players to install the Android 4.1 operating system (OS) or something even newer. The company has also cautioned that "Final Fantasy IX" may not work on all Android devices.

The game itself will, apparently, not be overhauled quite as drastically as "Final Fantasy VII," though there will still be some changes implemented.

According to PC Mag Asia, the updated version of "Final Fantasy IX" is expected to have improved graphics as well other features such as auto-save. It's unclear if Square Enix still has some other changes planned.

A trailer released for the updated version of "Final Fantasy IX" also focuses more on the improved visuals.

As of now, Square Enix has yet to fully flesh out their release plans for the upcoming game. 

It's currently only slated to be released in Japan, although the belief is that it will also reach western shores at some point.

The updated version of "Final Fantasy IX" is also expected to make its debut sometime in 2016, although Square Enix has yet to make an exact date available.
