'Final Fantasy VII Remake' release date pushed to 2017?

Final Fantasy VII Remake Square-Enix

One of the most highly anticipated games for the PS4 is "Final Fantasy VII Remake" from Square-Enix. However, as stated in a report from Twinfinite, the latest financial report from Square-Enix does not include it for the current fiscal year meaning it will not release until after March 2017.

The only big-name titles listed are "Final Fantasy XV," "Rise of the Tomb Raider" and "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided." This means these are the only big titles releasing for the PS4 from this point on to March 2017 as this period is still included in the current fiscal year.

Given that "Final Fantasy XV" is coming out in Sept. 30, it is likely that Square-Enix is putting some distance between its release and the launch of the first episode for "Final Fantasy VII Remake." It will be six months in between the launch of "Final Fantasy XV" and the end of the fiscal year, which is sufficient time to let "Final Fantasy XV" stay on storeshelves without another "Final Fantasy" game sharing market space.

It is speculated by fans that "Final Fantasy VII Remake" may launch its first episode by the summer of 2017, although this may be delayed even further if Square-Enix plans on launching "Kingdom Hearts III" first.

According to the report, it may be more viable for companies to avoid announcing new games until they have a more tangible release date in mind. Fans will recall that "Final Fantasy XV" as a prime example of this as it was announced as "Final Fantasy versus XIII" a full decade ago, causing many fans to lose enthusiasm over the game.

The report also points out that fans may be wary if "Final Fantasy VII Remake" will even meet the expected 2017 release window given that "Kingdom Hearts III" has yet to be released even though it was announced as far back as 2013. There is also the fact that the game is split into an episodic format, which means the complete game might take longer to experience.
